Music City Drum Corps is suspending its March Brass Camp originally scheduled for March 20-22 in Franklin, Tenn.
The uncertainty of school facility availability, travel restrictions and bans, reduced attendance and the potential to have a productive camp with understandable focus on the current COVID-19 situation led to this decision, according to Executive Director Joe Roach.
The MCYA Board of Directors, medical team, education team, design team and several outside resources were in constant communication the past week debating the best course of action. The safety and well-being of our members, staff and volunteers is our number one priority.
“When the corps is on the road, my goal is to create a safe and encouraging atmosphere where our performers can thrive,” Roach said. “With the current coronavirus situation, asking our people to travel and participate in a very communal weekend did not feel in line with the goal of a safe environment.
“We will be implementing more virtual interactions in lieu of camp,” he said. “I am confident that this will not impede what is going to be an incredible 2020 summer tour for MCDC.”
Music City’s focus now shifts to our April 24-26 Camp to be held at Freedom Middle School. This will be the final camp before moving in for the summer tour on May 22. April camp will see the addition of percussion and color guard. MCDC will continue to monitor the coronavirus situation and plan accordingly.
“We do not anticipate any changes to the summer schedule as of now. Of course we will be in constant communication with DCI and our tour event partners over the next several weeks,” Roach said.
Here is some information the corps has shared with its members, staff and volunteers surrounding COVID-19. We hope everyone stays safe and healthy.
