That’s right! Please welcome the newest addition to the world of winter winds, Music City Winds! Music City Youth in the Arts, Inc. is proud to announce the creation of a second performing ensemble under the MCYA umbrella. Music City Winds will hold auditions for woodwind and brass performers on Saturday, December 8 from 10AM-4PM in conjunction with Music City Drum Corps’ main audition camp at Freedom Middle School in Franklin, TN.
Keith Hall, past executive director and founder of Music City Drum Corps, will serve as director of Music City Winds. Kent Baker, current MCDC executive director, will serve as music supervisor and music arranger. Tommy Keenum is serving as artistic director. Many current Music City Drum Corps staff members will also serve on the new winds’ staff including drill writer Greg Guffey.
Music City Winds will compete in World Class at the WGI Championships in Dayton, OH. MC Winds will also participate in the WGI Regional in Indianapolis and the Super Regional in Atlanta. In addition to seeking approximately 24 brass performers and 24 woodwind performers, MC Winds also welcomes anyone interested in filling a solo marimba and synth position to audition. Instrumentation will include flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, marimba and synth. Membership will be geared primarily to college students. Outstanding high school students will also be considered.
The audition fee is $35. Lunch will be provided. Anyone already attending Music City’s audition camp for brass, percussion or guard will not be required to pay the $35 fee. The membership fee for those offered a position in Music City Winds is $1,100. Most meals will be provided throughout the season.
